Xiaomi has started rolling out the first MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 8 Pro users on the global ROM. This, however, is still a limited release meant for testing purposes before the wider rollout begins later this month.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is receiving the update as part of the second phase of the MIU 12 update rollout. The first rollout ended a few days ago, with up to 13 devices picking up the update back in China.

A good number of devices have also received the update outside China, among them the Mi 9, Mi 9T Pro, and even some Redmi K20 units in India. As per the latest developments, however, it appears as though owners of the Redmi Note 8T will have to wait longer to get their MIUI 12 treat.

In a pair of replies to Redmi Note 8T owners seeking info about the availability of MIUI 12 update, one of the Device Team guys in Mi forums claims the Note 8T will get it in a few months’ time.

Phase 2 of the MIUI 12 update rollout begins this month. As for how long it will last remains unknown, but the sheer number of devices expected to receive the update as part of phase 2 explains why the Device Team isn’t taking any chances by making promises that might not be met.

Throwing around a statement like “few months” gives Xiaomi room to work on the update without any pressure of meeting a certain deadline. On the flip side, it leaves device owners with nothing much to live for as the only option is to sit back and wait for the update to roll out God knows when.

As usual, we will keep an eye on the developments and let you know when the rollout begins. Stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
