Original story (from May 11) follows:
It was back in February when reports about the Korean OEM Samsung pushing the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update to the Galaxy A70 devices first surfaced. However, it wasn’t until a few weeks later in March that the rollout actually began at a wider level.
But a few days later, came the reports about One UI 2.0 bricking some A70 devices. Samsung uses two different types of PCBs for modulating charging on Galaxy A70. While Android 10 was correctly configured for the newer variant, it messed up the devices with older PCB and triggered bricking.
So PCB swap was the only way out of the problem. Despite this major issue, Samsung didn’t acknowledge it and went ahead circulating the One UI 2.0 update to A70 units instead of halting it. While Android 10 has landed on A70 devices in different regions, the Canadian units are still gawking.
But now, incoming is good news for them as well. Android 10 will hit the Galaxy A70 devices in Canada in another couple of weeks, starting May 25. The information comes from the Canadian carrier Telus’ official software update information page that was updated with this information lately.
Another Canadian carrier Fido also reflects the Android 10 for A70 is coming soon, while the exact timeline hasn’t been revealed by them as yet. If we follow the trend, Fido should also release the update for Galaxy A70 devices some around Telus.
Samsung is already backporting its latest Android OS iteration One UI 2.1 to the older devices. Now it remains to be seen whether the Canada A70 devices will get One UI 2.0 or the latest One UI 2.1 along with Android 10. Though the latter would be more appreciated by the device owners.
Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a continuous watch and will keep you posted about the latest developments on the matter. Until then, those of you curious to know if your Samsung device is eligible for Android 11/R based One UI 3.0 upgrade, head here to get a better picture.
Update 1 (May 23)
Canadian carrier Fido has updated its software support page to convey the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update for Galaxy A70 is on hold as of now.
