Original story (published on May 19) follows:
Xiaomi launched MIUI 12 in China back in late April 2020. At the time, only select devices were allowed into the beta testing program.
The company did reveal a release timeline for the MIUI 12 update, but this was also limited to the Chinese market. Over there, the stable rollout is expected to begin next month and continue rolling out well into July and probably August 2020.
Ahead of this rollout, the Chinese company has unveiled the global MIUI 12 update to the masses. We already knew about this event and now we have the confirmation from Xiaomi regarding eligible devices and availability of the software.
Xiaomi devices eligible for global MIUI 12 update
Xiaomi discontinued the beta testing program for the global MIUI. Instead, interested device owners can get to taste new MIUI updates ahead of others via the Mi Pilot program that delivers a near-stable version.
A Beta Stable MIUI ROM is meant for a limited set of users to ensure that only a small number is affected by any issues the developers may have missed while testing the software internally. It’s the same version that eventually rolls out publicly if everything goes well.
As it stands, the first global MIUI 12 beta firmware will begin rolling out next week to select users. The wider rollout to the Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20, and Redmi K20 Pro will get going throughout June 2020 as part of phase 1 of the exercise.
