New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on May 12, 2020) follows:
The success and popularity of Poco F1 (aka PocoPhone F1) needs no spotlight. Sadly, it took the OEM nearly 2 years to resurrect the Poco brand and come up with F1’s indirect successor, the Poco X2. Equally admired, the X2 took the market by storm as fans were desperately waiting for the next Pocophone.
But there’s one issue that has been chimed time and again since release – the battery drain problem. A quick look at Twitter and the community conveys that a huge chunk of X2 users are troubled with the battery draining problem. And now, the matter has finally caught the attention of the OEM.
POCO India GM, C Manmohan recently took to Twitter addressing the battery drain concern. They informed the affected users that the internal testing conveys negative results and they don’t see any battery-related problems as such.
POCO fans, I’ve been noticing that some of you have been complaining about the battery drain on the POCO X2.
Our internal testing team after multiple tests has informed me that there are no irregularities with battery.
However, to take a deeper look into the matter and to get to the root cause, Manmohan asked the users to share the log files through the Feedback app. They also shared the steps to generate the bug reports so that they can help the developers to catch hold of the problem behavior.
Manmohan asked users for their cooperation saying:
Once you have both the bug report, submit it through the feedback app. It will help our team better understand and analyse the root cause. So, let us work together to resolve this at the earliest.
What’s appeasing is that the team is now working on resolving the problem that is troubling many.
Two things that you should ensure before generating the logs are, first, your device is running the latest patch v11.0.7, and second, it has enough juice to complete the process. Here’s how you can generate the bug report and share it with the team:
- Step 1: Set the display refresh rate to 120Hz
- Step 2: Charge the phone to 100% and then go ahead with your daily usage until the battery drains (caution: make sure the phone has enough battery to generate a bug report)
- Step 3: You can generate a bug report by typing *#*#284#*#* in the dialer
- Step 4: Once that is done, set the display refresh rate to 60Hz, and repeat step 2 and 3 again. After that, just share the report using the Feedback app
That’s all you need to do. Simple steps that may help the team to get to the root cause.
Those of you who are facing the battery drain problem on their Poco X2 units, make sure you share the bug reports with the team. Rest assured, we’ll be keeping an active track on all developments and will share with you as and when they show up.
Update 1 (August 01)
Poco X2 users are now reporting severe battery drain issues following the MIUI 12.5 update. It isn’t affecting all though. An official acknowledgment is still awaited.
P.S. The upcoming Android 11/Android R has already been confirmed for the Poco X2.
