The update to Android 10 for the Redmi Note 8 Pro is quite elusive. Quite a good number of device owners on various regional ROMs say they are yet to see the new OS on their handsets despite Xiaomi releasing the first OTA in February 2020.

While it is natural for major OS updates to roll out in stages, it has now been two months since the Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update rolled out. That’s surely enough time to go for the wider rollout, but instead, Xiaomi has a nasty surprise for device owners.

Through the Mi forums, a moderator recently confirmed that some Redmi Note 8 Pro units haven’t been able to upgrade to Android 10 because the rollout was halted. There was no reason given, but that isn’t even the worst part.

As it stands, no one knows when the OS will be ready to roll out again to those who missed out on the initial rollout. While there is definitely something huge that forced Xiaomi to halt the rollout, a lack of clear communication on this matter leaves room for wilding.

If you are in for it, there is no need to wait until God knows when to get the stable Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update. Using the ROMs that Xiaomi sent out initially based on Android 10, you can upgrade your handset manually right now.

It’s pretty simple. Since these are recovery ROMs, all you need is to download the file and save it on your phone. When done, unlock the recovery mode by heading to Settings > About phone > System update and tap on the MIUI logo about 7-8 times.

Without leaving the screen above, tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and “Choose update package.” Now, find and select the downloaded ROM (.zip file) and tap OK when prompted. The MIUI ROM will be verified and then flashed once approved.

After a few minutes that may include the phone rebooting multiple times, you should be able to enjoy the new Android 10 OS. But then again, the fact that the rollout was halted could suggest this firmware is buggy, so do proceed at your own risk.
