VoWiFi has been touted as the next evolution in mobile calling technology. This comes after the last major innovation we saw in terms of VoFTE. VoWiFi uses WiFi to transmit calls as opposed to cellular networks which 2G, 3G and 4G-based VoLTE are all based on.
VoWiFi or Voice over WiFi requires both carrier and OEM support for it to work. We have seen many carriers, especially in India rolling out support for VoWiFi. These include Jio and Airtel. Phone makers haven’t been left behind either. All Realme devices now support VoWiFi.
Not to be left behind, Oppo is also rushing to roll out support for VoWiFi to a number of its devices including the Oppo F11 and the Oppo F11 Pro. To recall, earlier reports hinted that the Oppo F11 and the F11 Pro would get support for VoWiFi with the ColorOS 7 update.
That did not materialize. Both Oppo F11 and F11 Pro got updated to Android 10-based ColorOS 7 but the update brought support for neither Reliance Jio nor Airtel India’s VoWiFi feature.
Fast forward to today and Oppo is rolling out an OTA update to both the F11 and F11 Pro to enable VoWiFi feature. The update, CPH1969EX_11_C.21 also brings the April 2020 Android security patch level and weighs in at a rather sizeable 400MB.
With this update, Oppo F11 and the F11 Pro join the list of other Oppo devices that have been updated to support VoWiFi. These devices include;
The other Oppo devices that don’t currently support VoWiFi but are still expected to get it include;
– Oppo 10x Zoom
– Oppo K3
– Oppo A5 & A9
We shall keep an eye on this story and update when more devices get updated to support VoWiFi.
