New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on May 2, 2020) follows:
OnePlus’s latest release, the OnePlus 8 Pro was launched pretty recently and the device has already started to make headlines for all wrong reasons.
Hardware related issues are the least expected things from OnePlus, but the OnePlus 8 Pro has been surfaced with a few of those, within a few days of its official launch.
It seems like the company has rushed into things, as we have highlighted very recently about the black crush and green screen problem surfacing on the OnePlus 8 Pro units.
Fortunately, OnePlus came across this issue and acknowledged it that this green screen and black crush will be fixed via an OTA. Fast forward, a new OxyegnOS 10.5.6 update was recently rolled out for the OnePlus 8 Pro users, which doesn’t seem to fix the issue on the device.
Turning things worse, this turns out to be a serious issue, because as per a Reddit post, when the author of the Reddit post asked OnePlus why the latest OxygenOS 10.5.6 update did not resolve the issue, to which the OEM replied that it is a hardware related issue.
Matter of fact, in order to fix this issue the company is offering replacement, repair or refund at least in the European region as per the report.
Here is what the actual statement from OnePlus reads:
Since this is hardware issue you have 3 options to get this fixed for your:
1. Sending the device for repair to the service center.
2. Return the device and get the refund for the purchase.
3. Submit a replacement request on the website and get a new one device.
Although OnePlus is offering a replacement offer for the affected OnePlus 8 Pro devices, which in the first case, should not have happened to a device which is the most expensive offering from the company.
Recently, this green-tint issue also surfaced on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra via a software update. In response to which the company has already pushed a new update fixing this issue, and the same was expected out of OnePlus. But, the condition does not seem favorable for an update to fix this issue, as it has been termed as a “hardware issue” by the OEM itself.
Let us know in the comments below if you have also recently purchased the OnePlus 8 Pro and are experiencing the green tint or black crush screen related issues on your device or not?
Update 1 (May 4)
We all know, that customer support always does not have the latest or even the correct information related to user queries, especially in case of a smartphone issue.
And the same is with the case of this OnePlus 8 Pro green tint issue. As per various reports on Reddit, OnePlus customer support does not seem to have any clue about what is causing this issue and are giving out irrelevant solutions and answers for this hardware issue.
Another OnePlus customer support, states this screen issue to be some sort of a property of the AMOLED display and does not see it as a defect.
Moreover, some users have coined this green tint issue not to be a hardware issue and can be fixed via a software update. In fact, the OxygenOS 10.5.6 update, that was rolled out recently, has fixed this issue for some, but not for everyone.
Update 2 (May 6)
The OnePlus 8 Pro’s black crush and green screen issue has been fixed in the latest OTA, says suport. Head here for more details.
