HTC Android 11 update: Eligible devices & release date

The mention of HTC in 2020 sounds misplaced. The company barely features anywhere in major smartphone topics, not even regular software updates.

Sure, HTC is said to be working on a new smartphone for 2020, but we all know Google’s acquisition of the Pixel team from the Taiwanese company put the final nail in the coffin.

I thought HTC is dead… But HTC Desire 20 Pro is in the pipeline… Design is kind of a mix One Plus 8 on the front and Mi10 on the back… Yea, 3.5mm audio jack is there, lol…Code name is Bayamo and it’s already appeared in geekbench

The HTC U12+ is the last premium handset the company released and this was in mid-2018. To date, the device’s Android 10 fate remains unclear. This update, should it roll out, will be the second major OS upgrade for the U12+.

As for the few devices the company unveiled in 2019, including the HTC Exodus 1s from last December that surprisingly came pre-installed with Android Oreo, it doesn’t look like the company has plans to upgrade them to Android 10, leave alone Android 11.

That said, unless the HTC Desire 20 Pro actually materializes and probably gets some company as the year trickles down, chances of an official HTC Android 11 update ever showing up are quite slim.

None of the 2019 sets that joined the Exodus 1s, among them HTC U19e, Desire 19s, Desire 19+, and Wildfire X, look like candidates for the HTC Android 11 update. Heck, even the HTC Wildfire R70 announced in late February 2020 is likely to miss out. The device has Android Pie pre-installed.

HTC doesn’t look like a company that is still in the smartphone business in 2020. Software updates are hard to come by and so are new device releases, but we will keep our eyes on this and let you know in case of any fresh developments.
