[Fixed with May OTA] Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 10 update reportedly reduced camera Pro mode shutter speed to 1/4s

Xiaomi’s rollout of Android 10 to the Mi A3 has been one of the biggest nightmares in recently smartphone history. The company had to pull the update a record 4 times due to various issues.

Recently, we saw the company resort to an even more gradual rollout of the update in a bid to test the waters. The company set out to roll out the Android 10 update to only 1% of the Mi A3 devices excluding the Indian market. More on that here.

This gradual rollout is once again, not without its own set of issues. Granted, most of the issues that caused this update to get pulled before have since been addressed. However, users who have received this update continue to point out some other issues.

According to reports, the Android 10 update for the Mi A3 reduces shutter speed in Pro mode to 1/4s.

While this is still pretty useful for most casual smartphone photographers, for a Pro, that is not nearly long enough. Most Xiaomi devices have the minimum shutter speed set to around 5s so this update capping the shutter speed to just 1/4s greatly limits the application scenarios for this camera.

Luckily, Xiaomi has already taken note of this complaint from users. A Xiaomi moderator in the forums confirms that the issue has since been forwarded to the developers. That said, it remains at the discretion of the developers whether to address this camera issue in the next update.

It is impressive how Xiaomi has handled this Mi A3 crisis. The company also remains steadfast in rolling out updates to many of its devices. We have also already seen a number of developments on Xiaomi’s upcoming skin, MIUI 12 so it is safe to say that things are moving in Xiaomi’s camp.

Use the built-in feedback option, and report it to the devs. If many people report the same snag, it is more likely to be fixed.
