Original story (from Nov 07, 2019) follows:
All Destiny 2 players out there, listen up, on October 7, the game will be taken down and you will experience login issues as the servers will be taken down for maintenance.
The devs informed about the maintenance on the official twitter handle of the game. The devs informed that the servers will be taken down for maintenance for pushing a hotfix update (v2.6.1.1). The devs expect the game to be down for 15 mins and should be taken back online around 9 a.m. PST.
The hotfix will be available for all platforms and regions and users may experience login issues. The maintenance is expected to end around 11 A.M. PST.
The official dev website gave a detailed schedule of the maintenance as follows –

The patch notes for the hotfix are available and majorly will contain fixes for the bugs in the Izanagi’s Burden. Following are the complete patch notes:

Izanagi’s Burden
Fixed an issue causing Forge Keys to not count towards Mysterious Box (Izanagi’s Burden) Quest Progression
Players affected by this should find the corresponding objective marked correctly after logging in.
Fixed an issue where the Obsidian Crystal would not give Quest Progression
Players affected by this will need to reacquire a Black Armory Rare bounty, and then complete and claim it to get another Obsidian Crystal.
Power Progression
Adjusted the Power granted by pinnacle rewards to +2 instead of +1
Rewards
The Season Pass weapons Pluperfect and Temporal Clause now have a chance to drop from Vex Offensive after you have obtained them.
Fixed an issue that occasionally caused the Weekly Eris Challenge to not drop a Powerful reward

Fixed an issue causing the “Ashes to Assets” perk to provide Super energy at an unintended level

Update 1 (Dec 10)
You may find both Destiny 2 and 1 servers down right now, as the games are undergoing a scheduled maintenance. So players will be removed from all the activities and won’t be able to login during this duration.
Tomorrow (12/10) at 8 AM PST, Destiny 1 & 2 will undergo maintenance for Destiny 2 Update 2.7.0.
Players will be removed from activities at 8:45 AM and be unable to log in until 10 AM. Update 2.7.0 will be available to download at 9 AM.
Update 2 (Dec 10)
The update is now being rolled out.
Destiny 2 Update 2.7.0 is being rolled out across all platforms & regions.
Players will be able to log in at 10 AM.
Update 3 (Dec 10)
Latest status update from @bungiehelp:
Destiny 1 and 2 are back online.
Users may experience sign-on issues as background maintenance is still ongoing.

A maintenance has been scheduled for today to resolve the server side glitches.
Tomorrow (12/11) at 9 AM PST Destiny services will undergo maintenance. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 will be taken offline between 10 AM to 11 AM PST to resolve server-side issues. No game content will be changed during this maintenance.

The maintenance has begun.
Today’s Destiny service maintenance has begun. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 will be taken offline between 10 AM to 11 AM PST to resolve server-side issues. No game content will be changed during this maintenance.
Update 6 (Dec 16)
A maintenance has been scheduled for today.
Tomorrow (12/16) at 10 AM PST Destiny 2 will undergo background maintenance. No downtime is expected.
Update 7 (Feb 19)
An all-day backend mainetenance has been scheduled for today starting at 2pm PST.
Destiny 2 is scheduled to undergo all-day backend maintenance starting today at 2am PST.
After maintenance begins, players may be returned to the title screen upon hitting Orbit after activity completion. Players who log back in should expect no further interruptions.
Update 8 (Feb 19)
The maintenance has begun.
Destiny 2 all-day backend server maintenance has begun. Players who are returned to the title screen between activities should log back in with no further interruption.

Incoming is an all-day backend maintenance alert.
Destiny 2 is scheduled to undergo all-day backend maintenance starting today at 1am PDT.
