“At this rate, we may arrive at the launch event with nearly all the details of what’s coming in MIUI 12. Hopefully not for this may just take away all the fun of the event.”
I made the comment above after Xiaomi teased the upcoming MIUI 12 Dark Mode 2.0. And even before the dust settles, the Chinese vendor has now published yet another teaser of the new Always-on Display (AOD) to add to the growing number of things we already know about MIUI 12.
In a couple of Weibo posts, the company has shed light on what MIUI fans can expect when the new Always-on Display feature arrives as part of the 12 update.
For the uninitiated, AOD is associated with AMOLED panels, which means not all Xiaomi devices will get support for the new MIUI 12 AOD feature even if they do qualify for the update.
Matter of fact, the feature has been here since MIUI 10 and got updated in MIUI 11. In MIUI 12, Xiaomi is taking things a notch higher, you know, just like in the case of Dark Mode 2.0.
As per the teasers, the new MIUI 12 dynamic AOD will support MAML format, meaning developers can implement different animations and visuals depending on the weather, time conditions or even go with random presentations, as they wish.
Unlike the current static AOD for custom styles that neither supports time nor weather, the updated version supports universal system switches for enabling or disabling app shortcuts, battery indicator, and so on.
Matter of fact, Xiaomi says the MIUI 12 dynamic AOD feature will support over 1000 custom animated AOD styles out of the box, which is pretty cool.
Last but not least, the MIUI 12 update will also include a bunch of new animated in-house AOD styles featuring the Mi Bunny (official Xiaomi mascot), Kino (Redmi K30 series mascot), PUBG Mobile, Kings of Glory, and more.
