Xiaomi is getting ready to unveil the next huge MIUI update in the shape of MIUI 12. Set to hit the stage on April 27, the update is expected to ring a series of changes to the UI as well as introduce new features to eligible devices.

Speaking of eligible devices, we do have a couple of lists doing rounds purporting to be lining up for an MIUI 12 update later this year. Even more impressive is that an official Xiaomi app exists solely for this purpose, so that you don’t have to keep guessing.

On these lists is the Xiaomi Mi 8, a flagship handset that has now been succeeded twice, the latest bringing forth the Mi 10 series. Having arrived running Android Oreo out of the box, its status in the Mi series meant that the Mi 8 Android 10 update was only a question of when.

Mi 8 Android 10 update arrived in January 2020

Indeed, in early January, the device picked up the official Android 10 update, but the rollout was limited to a few units for obvious reasons. A couple or so weeks later, Xiaomi commenced the wider rollout of the software.

Besides the goodies of MIUI 11 and Android 10, the update also bumped the security patch level to December 2019. Not the latest at the time, but given the update tagged along a new OS, many for sure didn’t mind the older patch.

Fast-forward to today, a new Mi 8 Android 10 build is now up for grabs, this time bumping the security patch level to the latest available – April 2020. That’s good stuff from Xiaomi, especially considering the device has been around for nearly two years now.

Furthermore, the update also brings App lock support to all apps, revamps the start page and optimizes some features to perform better than before, so be sure to grab the firmware once the OTA shows up.

Xiaomi says the OTA update is currently staged, meaning only a few units will receive it today while others wait for days or probably weeks to receive it. Well, why wait when the download link is right below? Your choice.
