[Updated] Nokia 8 Sirocco Android 10 update begins rolling out

The Nokia 8 Sirocco was among the first devices that HMD Global announced under the Android One banner. The company had started selling Nokia-branded smartphones the previous year, but the software back then had nothing to do with the Google program.

Following the poor job the company did with the flagship Nokia 8, all eyes were on the Nokia 8 Sirocco to step up the chase for the top-dollar market. But honestly, the device turned out underwhelming for the most part.

Matter of fact, the most essential part of the phone – software updates or Android One for that matter – is what has been dragging the device for so long. This explains why the Nokia 8 Sirocco Android 10 update is only arriving now, weeks after the OS was released to its low-entry counterparts.

At this point, though, it won’t matter as long as the incoming Nokia 8 Sirocco Android 10 update doesn’t end up like the buggy Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 10 update.

Juho Sarvikas has already confirmed on Twitter that indeed the OS is available to download. The OTA package weighs in at 1.38GB and bumps the software version number to V5.120, tagging along the latest April 2020 security patch.

Like the recent Android 10 updates to the Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2, expect the Nokia 8 Sirocco to receive Android 10 update in batches. This means that some units may have to wait for several days before actually receiving the download notificationn.

According to Nokia, the update will hit 10% of units by today in Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Macau, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, and Ukraine.

Later on April 18, 50% of all units will have received the new OS and 100% by April 20.

The Wave 2 for the circulation of the Android 10 update to more Nokia 8 Sirocco units has begun. Please note the update approval is still pending for the UK.
