New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on February 04, 2020) follows:
All thanks to being the first and only foldable smartphone from Samsung (not for long, though), the Galaxy Fold also became the company’s most expensive smartphone yet priced at about $2,000 in the U.S. and £1,800 in the UK. In India, it made its debut at a cool INR 164,999.
That’s a lot of money for a smartphone that is getting shitty treatment from Samsung, at least if the update to One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 is anything to go by. In Europe and India, for instance, the Galaxy Fold One UI 2.0 update isn’t expected until April 2020.
Yes, you read that right! Samsung’s most expensive smartphone today won’t be updated to the latest software available until Q2 2020. Two months from now, to be precise. The wait could be even much longer where carriers are involved.
So far, owners of the Fold have already watched the aging Galaxy S9, Note 9 and even the sub-$300 Galaxy M20 and M30 pick up the One UI 2.0 update, which is disrespectful, to say the least.
No Galaxy Fold One UI 2.0 beta plans
After the Galaxy S9 and Note 9, it doesn’t seem like there is a way forward for the One UI 2.0 beta program. Going forward, it’s likely that Samsung will no longer require devices to try the beta firmware before pushing the stable version.
Instead, eligible devices will simply pick up the stable updates when Samsung feels it’s time. We knew about this aspect with respect to the Galaxy Fold a while ago, so it doesn’t surprise us that there is still no Galaxy Fold One UI 2.0 beta update to date.
Android 10 update may arrive in February or March
Samsung hasn’t been keen to stick to the One UI 2.0 release dates provided in various roadmaps. The Galaxy S10 and Note 10, for instance, received Android 10 a full month ahead of schedule.
Going by this logic, it’s likely the Galaxy Fold may also get lucky and receive the new OS ahead of schedule, probably in March or even February. This argument has been seconded by Max Weinbach of XDA Developers on Twitter, who claims the update may, in fact, arrive this month.
As you can see from the language of the tweet, nothing is guaranteed here. But at least we get something to hold on as we wait for some official word from Samsung, even though it may never come.
As usual, we will watch out for more developing news regarding the Galaxy Fold One UI 2.0 update and let you know as and when we get them.
