Samsung Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.1 update hopefuls receiving a huge April security patch

Samsung has been very diligent in pushing out updates to its devices in the recent past. This is a sharp contrast from the Samsung from early to mid-2010s that got a lot of slack for representing everything that was wrong with Android, in terms of updates.

Samsung’s flagship from 2018, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been pretty well maintained throughout its lifetime. The device was launched running Android 8 Oreo and has since been updated and currently stands at the very latest One UI 2, based on Android 10.

However, moving forward, things are not very clear for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in terms of future updates. A few days ago, we got reports that the device might get updated to Samsung’s upcoming One UI 2, along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. More on that here.

Later, we got more reports that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.1 update was in doubt. In the same statement, the fate of the Galaxy S9 was tied with it. This meant that Galaxy S9 might not get updated after all.

While that is happening, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users are getting an update to the April 2020 Android security patch update. This update brings the software version on this device to DTCA/DTC9/DTC9.

Unlike other updates, this update is almost twice the size of the usual monthly security patch updates, weighing in at a whopping 468.26 MB. It brings the Security patch level to April 1.

At this moment, it remains unclear what the fate of this beast of a phone from a few years ago is. We shall keep an eye on this device and will update as and when we get more information about its future updates.
