Dorohedoro: New illustration by Q. Hayashida and OSTs released

Remember Tsubasa Chronicle or Chronicles of the Wings as we called it in the West? The fantasy anime series by CLAMP from the early 2000s where the main leads were on an adventure to collect memory feathers of one of the characters? The series Dorohedoro is kind of like that, except, way more dark and bloody.

Seems like a MAPPA studios twist to a classic romance anime except this was adapted from the original works of Q Hayashida’s 1999 manga of the same name. The anime premiered on Jan 12, 2020, and the first season just concluded airing with episode 12.

To thank his fans for ‘putting up with’ so much dark fantasy and for having finished watching the first season, the author has released a fresh new illustration featuring the MVPs from the show.

The Blu-Ray version mentioned here also comes with six OVAs bundled together with the 12 episodes that one can catch on Netflix. Additionally, if you liked the opening and ending themes for the anime, you can now listen to the entire OST track from the show that has just been released on Spotify.

The opening theme “Welcome to Chaos” and the series’ ending themes songs Who am I ?, Night SURFING, D.D.D.D., Strange Meat Pie, SECONDs FLY and 404, are performed by (K)NoW_NAME.

The ‘Droheads’ would be happy to know that there is a high chance that this show would be picked up for a second season. Why? Well firstly, the original work by Q Hayashida has 23 volumes and that leaves more than enough content to be animated into an entire season (and maybe even more).

Secondly, the director had dropped strong hints that the show will be greenlit for a second season if there is a good response from fans. And luckily, this weird gory sci-fi has managed to te many takers for itself.

Literally meaning ‘vomit and nausea’, “Dorohedoro’ is a twisted tale following amnesiac half human-half alligator Caiman and his friend through a dystopian world where they have to survive and retrieve Kaiman’s memories.

There is a strange mix of magic and sci-fi in this show. While at a glance it may give off ‘Beastars’ like vibes thanks to the morphed characters, this show is unique in its own way.
