With the second season of shoujo anime Fruits Basket (2019) due for release on April 6, Funimation is not holding back from getting fans all worked up. As we count down to the world premiere, the streaming platform has announced the launch of the theme songs from the upcoming season.

The opening theme is called ‘Prism’ and performed by Japanese duo artists AmPm (‘amupamu) who are often seen with rabbit masks on. The track also features singer Miyuna.

This is a more upbeat techno track that goes well with the beach vibes expected from the upcoming episodes, since the second season’s trailer hints that our protagonists will be exploring the summer vacation arc from the manga.

Here’s what the music producers had to say about their collaboration with this anime project.

” This our first Japanese original song with lyrics, not to mention the first anime theme song. I hope that “Prism” delivered by AmPm wearing a rabbit face will be a little closer to the heart of everyone who watches Fruits Basker (referring to the animals in the show).

The ending theme for the second season comes from a stand-alone artist project called THE CHARM PARK and the track’s name is “ad meliora”. Talking about their new music for Fruits Basket, the artist shared:

“As a highschooler growing up in Los Angeles, I often used to watch “fruits basket” (2001) from around. It’s a very warm and sometimes painful piece that’s still unforgettable. What I value every day is the song I made with the desire to work harder, although it has not changed at that time.”

In addition to the music releases, several cuts of the first episode, depicting student council members Sho Manabe and Makoto Kuraki, were also released on Fruits Basket’s official website. Fruits Basket anime (20019) is adapted from the Takaya’s manga serialised in ‘Hana To Yume’ magazine from 1998 to 2006.

It tells the story of Toru Honda, an orphaned girl whose fate changes after she comes into contact with the Soma family. Members of the Soma family are connected to the Chinese zodiac animals, and they transform into their respective Zodiac animals when embraced by the opposite gender.

Earlier, an extended trailer with a sneak-peek into the upcoming season was shared by the show-makers. Here’s a lowdown of what the trailer hints at. The second season starts on the night of April 6 at TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, and others. Funimation will stream the English translated episodes for western audiences.
