Audi, one of the best German automakers is partnering with Verizon, one of the best telcos in the business in the United States to offer Audi users in-car connectivity solutions.
This service is aimed at delivering advanced connectivity and embedded in-vehicle Wi-Fi to some of the latest cars from Audi.
This next-generation level of connectivity will be launching on the 2020 Audi A4 and A5 models. According to Audi, this marks the next evolution of Audi’s connected vehicle service lines, at least in the U.S. Basically, these models have Audi’s new infotainment system.
Verizon says that the Unlimited data connection will be powered by Verizon’s 4G LTE network. One of 5G’s application is autonomous driving. But that is still a long way out. For now, Verizon promises to deliver fast, secure in-vehicle internet access to Audi customers using 4G.
Verizon says that it will offer a complimentary six-month trial of all Audi connect® services including the subscription-free Audi connect® CARE package.
This connectivity will be available in three tiers; Audi connect® CARE, PRIME and PLUS packages. Upon expiry of the 6 months trial, PRIME customers will have access to Verizon Unlimited at speeds optimized for music streaming.
Customers who enroll in Audi connect® PLUS will have access to Verizon Unlimited at LTE speeds.
Although Audi didn’t name vehicles, select 2020 Audi models in the U.S. will also be integrated with Verizon’s eSIM enabled network to handle network authentication. This will help to streamline wireless carrier capabilities globally in Audi vehicles.
