Google Stadia tweak adds a Game filter to desktop version

The Google Stadia story is no longer the mystery it was a couple or so months ago. We all know that Stadia enjoyed an issue-prone launch that was peaked by Google failing to deliver on a bunch of pre-launch promises.

Arguing against the general experience of playing Stadia would be nitpicking, though. And this wouldn’t be fair to something that is just starting off. But truth be told, the number of games available on Stadia is quite limited, fortunately, Google keeps adding more.

Matter of fact, the search giant has already confirmed the new pair of games that will be coming to Stadia Pro on January 1, 2020, namely Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration and Thumper.

With the continued addition of the promised features alongside new others, Google is for sure steering Stadia towards the right direction. Recently, existing Chromecast Ultra units got updated with Stadia support and Founders got a second Buddy Pass.

For some reason, though, the Stadia experience varies slightly depending on the device you are using. Not until recently, for instance, you could only buy games via the Stadia phone app and nowhere else.

Considering the fact that Stadia can be played on other devices like a TV or a computer via Chrome web browser, having this option pretty much everywhere sounds like a no-brainer.

But this hasn’t been the case until Google recently made a server-side change to add a built-in Store to the desktop browser of the game streaming service, just like in the mobile app version.

Now, to make the user experience even better, Redditor AquaRegia has added an option to filter your games just next to the Store icon in the desktop view. It’s a script that needs Tampermonkey manager to make tweaks to stadia.google.com and add the Game filter option.

As you may have guessed, this isn’t official coming from the Stadia team. But the hope is that the team will eventually add a built-in game filter on all devices that support Stadia, probably via another server-side update.
