Update (December 07, 2018):

A quick look at user reviews on the Gmail app’s Google Play Store listing indicates the problem might have started happening yesterday. Now, given that the last update to the app was on November 28, it’s quite possible that a server side change could have broken email filtering.

At this time, we have no information on whether or not the problem affects Gmail’s iOS app as well.

Original story follows:

Looks like Gmail users are experiencing issues with automatic email filtering. We’re seeing a significant number of reports that say emails that are supposed to arrive in the Promotions folder are making way to Gmail’s Primary folder.

Of course, this is a major problem for most Gmail users as we all know that a large number of promotional emails arrive each day. Many of the affected users are taking to social media platforms to share this problem.

We haven’t come across a response from Google or Gmail on this issue. However, we are actively trying to find more information on the matter, and will update this story as and when any news worthy developments takes place.
