[Update: Partial fix rolled out] LastPass & AdBlock Plus add-ons not working on Firefox? You aren't alone

LastPass, as most of you may know, is quite a popular free password manager-cum-generator that stores encrypted passwords online in a secure vault. The service also facilitates Web browser extension, that is, one can download and install LastPass as an add-on for the Web browser.

Incoming are reports regarding an issue that affects LastPass extension.

Of late, a lot of LastPass users are routing to social media platforms chiming they aren’t able to use LastPass extension on Firefox as they get a notification the extension has been disabled as it doesn’t meet the current Firefox standards.

In the middle of a session, firefox gives me a popup that I am running unsecure addins. It disables lastpass and I can’t reenable. I can’t reinstall either as it tells me the add-in is corrupt.

Same thing just happened to me; this afternoon firefox disabled lastpass, and when I tried to re-download I instantly got a “Download failed” message

Coming to what is causing this issue, it’s an expired Firefox certification that has caused the situation – a problem that is already being highlighted by mainstream tech media.

Regarding the add-ons getting disabled, Mozilla has informed their users they are looking int the issue:

Our team is actively working on a fix. We will update as soon as we have more information.

Meanwhile, Firefox is telling the affected LastPass users to wait until they fix this up:

There’s a certificate issue in Firefox that’s causing add-ons to stop working and add-on installs to fail. Our team is actively working on a fix.

Not only LastPass, other add-ons like Adblock Plus have also been disabled and aren’t working. Adblock Plus is also informing the affected users through their official Twitter handle that it’s an issue at Firefox’s end and is being worked on.

Currently, an issue with Firefox disabled all add-ons. Hang in there while we wait for them to fix this.

People are also reporting about issues-related to Firefox themes, which could also be related to the Firefox certificate expiry problem.

Mozilla has announced a new Firefox release has been pushed out that “repairs the certificate chain.” However, don’t expect all recent issues to get fixed with this release. Here are the exact words from the company:

This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061). There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week
