Just in the past month a site called The Washington Pundit scored hits on FB/Twitter by copying and pasting old stories about pedophiles. One is from 2013 but they slapped a “Breaking” label on it and off it went. pic.twitter.com/WkD1Rmmi5h

The Washington Pundit, a Washington DC based news website with tagline “we strive to push the truth with non-agenda based reporting of the most important current event topics,” has been hacked. If you try opening the site currently, you’ll get to read the following:
Site Down Due to Recent Hacking Attempts
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and are working on a solution. After recent articles and attacks on our credibility, we were the victims of a hack that has damaged our website significantly. While we work on fixing this issue we appreciate your continued support

So what are those “recent articles and attacks on our credibility” the website staff is talking about. Well, while they haven’t said anything officially about it, in all likelihood they are pointing fingers at the recent Hillary Clinton Pedophile Rings cover up story the website ran a few days back.
The story talked about an NBS news investigation that highlighted claims of a massive Hillary Clinton elite pedophile ring cover-up. Here’s an excerpt highlighted by Washington Pundit article:
NBC has obtained documents relating to ongoing investigations into some disturbing allegations involving State Department personnel and at least one ambassador. A State Department memo says, quote, “the Ambassador routinely ditched his protective security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from both prostitutes and minor children
Unsurprisingly, after this Washington Pundit story came out, it went viral. However, BuzzFeed News came up with a story shortly thereafter wherein they called the Washington Pundit story false.
The Washington Pundit is one of several sites pushing false, outdated stories about pedophilia — and being rewarded with viral traffic from Facebook and Twitter
The text was largely a transcript of an NBC News report from 2013 that aired allegations of a cover-up of sexual misconduct at the State Department while Hillary Clinton was in charge. The core allegations against an ambassador were later disproven and he received a public apology from the State Department. Clinton herself was not accused of anything directly, and NBC News “admitted” nothing
This even resulted in a heated exchange of words between the author of the BuzzFeed News story and the official Washington Pundit Twitter handler.

While the site is still down, speculations are rife about the story on pedophiles being the reason behind the website hack.

There’s currently no information on who the hackers are, and how long it will take for the site to be back up.
