Daily Apple News: Future product plans, foldable display purchase from Samsung, WatchOS 6 concept, and more

It’s a new week and if you’re still facing those Monday blues, here’s a reason to turn that frown upside down. Apple is working on something which is going to blow you away and keep you intrigued. The company might be joining the likes of Samsung and Huawei by manufacturing foldable smartphones of its own.

Apple’s annual investor meeting which took place in California at the Apple Park campus turned out to be quite interesting. CEO Tim Cook gave the world a glimpse into the company’s future plans. The news regarding this first broke on Bloomberg after which is stormed throughout every social media platform.

Apparently, Apple is attempting to do some new and blow you away!

Its eventual goal is to reduce prices of the 2018 Retina MacBook Air. In addition to this, the company has long-term plans for its AirPods.

While the CEO never disclosed the company’s entire roadmap, he did give away quite a few hints. Supposedly, in the future, Apple’s AirPods will be available in more colours than its traditional white colour. Other changes to the AirPods will include Siri support and wireless charging.

Needless to say, these are going to be game-changing!

Apart from this, Apple is spearheading its way into the Augmented Reality (AR) arena with its plans of manufacturing AR smart glasses. While that’s all for its products, Apple is looking to increase its sources of revenue through services. The company intends to do so by launching two new services, details on which haven’t been revealed as yet.

Elsewhere in the Apple world, a report has surfaced claiming that Apple has given in and purchased foldable displays from Samsung. This isn’t very surprising considering the enthusiasm which the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, displayed regarding the age of foldable displays.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has provided Apple with its technology. Apple has relied upon Samsung for OLED panels which were used in some of the highest-end iPhones.

This piece of interesting information was brought to light by ETNews. The website claimed that Apple has purchased a 7.2-inch foldable display from Samsung. This is just 0.1-inches smaller than the screen used on Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone.

Does this mean that Apple has ended all hopes of manufacturing its own foldable display?

While at first it may appear so but given Apple’s ingenuity and countless hours of work into multiple patents, Apple isn’t likely to drop the idea altogether. Perhaps, purchasing Samsung’s technology is to give the company enough time to come up with its own solution.

Moving on, are you a software engineer? If so, you now have greater chances of securing a position at Apple.

According to a survey-based report conducted by Thinknum, ever since the first quarter of 2016, Apple has been recruiting more software engineers than hardware engineers. The data secured for conducting this study was taken directly from Apple’s jobs portal.

While the exact reason for this is unknown, there are a few speculations why Apple is doing this. Remember how the CEO of Apple told the world that it will be prioritizing its services? This is the most logical explanation to it and one which keeps in line with the company’s plan of launching a new streaming service.

In other news, it’s time for a taste of the world of fantasy. Matt Birchler is back with his annual dose of a concept watchOS. However, this time, he takes his imagination to a whole new level. Some of the features he envisions include a revamped Siri face, new sleep tracking rings and even a change in interface.

While Birchler loved the Siri face first introduced by watchOS 4, he now believes that a change is long overdue. His take on it involves an upgrade to a more modern and modular design with a clutter-free interface.

His concept watchOS 6 includes a few new additions to the operating system including sleep tracking and additional wellbeing features.

Supposedly, rumours have scourged the internet of Apple’s plans of including sleep tracking in future watchOS updates. Perhaps Apple is paying heed to the needs of its customers.

Moving on to the next news, if you’ve been frustrated with the lack of Handoff support on Apple Music, here’s a solution for you. Courtesy of a developer called Martin Powlette, you can now do so on Apple Music.

The developer has designed an app called PlayOff. In order for this to work, one needs to install the app on both devices. Installing an app which gives you this great feature is hardly a huge price to pay.

The only downside to using the app is that both devices must be in close proximity since it requires Bluetooth to be enabled on both devices.

The developer does have future plans for the app as he says that he will soon be making the app compatible for iPads as well as adding support for automatic audio output switching.

For those who aren’t aware, Handoff support allows one to play music on the iPhone and then continue that playback on a Mac.

Coming on to the final news for the day, if you intend on hacking Apple’s iCloud, you’ll likely find yourself in a world of trouble including jail time. At least that’s what happened with a Virginia teacher, Christopher Brannan. The hacker managed to hack into iCloud and download private content of celebrities from back in 2014.

The court has found him guilty and sentenced him to 34 months of jail time. Maybe, just maybe, this type of solitary confinement will help him mend his ways and become a better individual!
