Today’s a new day and one filled with interesting and fascinating Apple news. Welcome back to your daily dose of news from the Apple ecosystem, encompassing Apple’s new credit card to its upcoming electric van. Sit back, relax, and prepare to be updated on the latest Apple news.
It appears that Apple is taking its fall to the 17th spot on the list of most innovative companies for 2019 to heart. The company has a trick up its sleeve and is reportedly working on an entirely new product which will launch in the latter half of this year. Supposedly, Apple is jointly working with Goldman Sachs to make a credit card.
Well, you have guessed it by now that this isn’t going to be one of the usual plastic cards.
Courtesy of a report by the Wall Street Journal, we know that the credit card will be integrated with the iPhone and offer useful functionality including the ability to track spending. This is definitely something totally different from the usual ventures which Apple undertakes.
Perhaps, this is Apple’s way of showing the world that the future is now! Apple will certainly stand to benefit and add to its source of revenue through the swipe fees from the new credit card. In all possibility, this will amount to a larger slice of the pie than what it would generally receive from purchases thorough similar services like Apple Pay.
Users will be able to keep a track of personal financial details using an iPhone application. Apple engineers may make use of virtualization tools to enhance the overall experience and help users manage their finances in a better manner. In theory, it bears an uncanny resemblance to Goldman’s Clarity Money app.
The credit card will function on the Mastercard network and offer an incentive to users. This includes a 2% cash back offer on all purchases.
Moving on, there’s good news for macOS gamers. Apparently, Apple has decided to make one of the most popular eGPUs compatible with macOS. If you remember clearly, during the beta testing period of macOS 10.13.4, the company mentioned that the OS would support the Radeon RX 560. However, these dreams ended when the company went back on its word and excluded it from its support list.
Fortunately, the Radeon RX 560 eGPU has now been added to the eGPU support document for macOS. The three supported eGPUs on macOS include the Blackmagic eGPU and Blackmagic eGPU Pro, Sonnet Radeon RX 570 eGFX Breakaway Puck, and the Sonnet Radeon RX 560 eGFX Breakaway Puck.
While this does seem all fine and dandy, there is a downside to using the RX 560 as an eGPU with your Mac. Apple claims that users who have connected to third-party displays will encounter issues when playing HDCP-protected content.
Rumour has it that Apple could be moving away from using Intel-based processor for its Macs. Instead, the company will use its own ARM chips. Reports claim that this shift could take place sooner than expected and as soon as 2020.
While this will greatly benefit the company, what might be a problem is making the software compatible with ARM-chips. This may require Apple to develop different versions of Mac OS for different hardware.
On the flip side, if Apple does manage to successfully create universal apps, running apps on different hardware will be a breeze. Unfortunately, we are still at least a year or two away from seeing any of these translate into a reality.
Anyway, next up is something interesting.
If you burn a hole in your wallet to purchase one of Apple’s premium smartphones then you should be allowed to have a little fun with it. Safari on iOS has a bug which allows you to trick people with fake website headlines.
The select text and share feature is an extremely useful one and can now be used to play pranks as well! All you have to do is type text into the address bar of the Safari browser, highlight and share it with Safari Sheet.
This will send the written text along with a website link which will easily fool your friends into believing the fake headlines entered into the address bar.
Do bear in mind that this will only work if sent from an iPhone to an iPhone or iPad and not to an Android device. Enjoy it while it lasts as Apple is sure to put a damper on your fun with a software update to fix this any time soon.
Safari for iOS 12.2 beta, for macOS High Sierra and Mojave, has an updated tracking prevention system. Cookies can always be stolen and have adverse effects on a browser. This is why Apple is capping the client-side cookie period to seven days. Needless to say, after this period is over, the cookies will expire.
In a way, the company is tightening security, increasing privacy and at the same time improving the overall experience of web browsing. Some blessings come in small packages, just like this one!
Moving the news ticker further, a German report has surfaced online revealing that the much-anticipated Apple car may not be a car after all, but an electric van. According to the report by Manager Magazin, Apple has been testing out prototypes of what appears to be the infamous Apple car. The van works by electric motors, has specially design seats and has a black and silver finish.
One thing’s for sure, Apple knows how to keep it classy! If memory serves you well, you’ll remember Apple’s contract signing with Volkswagen. Perhaps, it’s electric van might be manufactured by them. Nevertheless, this is certainly going to be a piece of innovations which gives us a glimpse of the future.
Last but far from being the least, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, will be delivering the 2019 Commencement speech at Sandford University. Cook sees it as an honor and opportunity to strengthen bonds between the University and Apple. His speech is bound to be insightful, with hopes of enriching young minds and helping them achieve the unthinkable!
That’s it for today folks, but be sure to check in again tomorrow for a glimpse into the world of Apple!
