How would you feel if after installing a new update you end up loosing the basic touchscreen functionality of your smartphone? Yes, that feeling is the current state of many Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro (730) users, whose devices are nothing more then paperweight since installing Android Oreo 8.1 on their units.

The Android 8.1 update got rolling on Galaxy J7 Pro few months ago, and since then reports related to the device’s touchscreen going insensitive for reasons unknown continue to proliferate. The plight of those affected (1,2,3,4) can be grasped through the following selection of comments:

Having the same problem here…I updated the software via OTA. When the phone restarted the touch screen stopped working. I am unable to switch the phone off or restart it by holding the power button.

My J7 pro is also insensitive after oreo update. Please help. I can not access my phone.

Updated to the new Oreo update and once it loaded back up, the touch screen was not working. I did a factory reset hoping it will downgrade but all it did was factory reset my phone and erase everything. The touch screen is still not working.

I have the same problem after I update my Samsung J7 Pro 2017 mobile phone the screen do not respond. Before the update I can use my phone without any problem with the touchscreen. After the installation the phone restart and in the screen appeared that I need to enter the correct pattern so it will continue to open but unfortunately I cannot enter the pattern.

I updated my phone 1 week ago. I use otg and mouse to navigate the screen. This is a bug from the update. Still waiting for the new one.

I update the samsung j7pro software update after install my phone the screen not working again , then the technician said me after 3hrs charge while power off the screen touchscreen work again but still not working screen idk what to do

A complainants also shared what they got to hear from the service center.

I just came to samsung customer service, they want to replace the lcd and they want me to pay for almost 7,000php. Thats kind of rude, theres no problem about my lcd, i just upgraded it to 8.1.0. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? MY SAMSUNG J7 PRO IS WORKING WELL BEFORE I UPDATED IT!

It’s worth mentioning that not all Galaxy J7 Pro units are facing the issue in question. But those who are have been suggested by Samsung moderators (on the company’s official help forum) to troubleshoot their device, try smart switch or visit UBreakIFix.

Here’s what one of the moderator mentioned while addressing the complainants:

It is possible, that some of the phones in this thread have a hardware issue with the screen versus a software issue with it not responding to touch.

We haven’t come across any development on the matter yet, but we are keeping an active tab and will update the story as and when anything newsworthy comes to our sight.

Meanwhile, here are some of the suggestions shared by the affected users that you can try hands on – 1,2,3,4.
