It was just last week that the latest OxygenOS 5.1.11 rolled out to OnePlus 6 devices. Amomg other changes, the update also brought along fix for the Adaptive brightness-related glitch that caused the device’s screen to flicker under bright sunlight (the issue that we first highlighted last month, and then followed up with another story regarding its incoming fix).

5.1.11

But, was the issue completely fixed?

Sadly, the reports that we are now coming across are contradictory and chime the problem hasn’t been fixed with the newest OS update, at least not for all.

Multiple threads have been posted across the company’s official help forum (1,2,3,4,5) since the 5.1.11 update got live, with different OnePlus users confirming the problem is still there.

For a quick glance, here’s a selection of some of the user comments:

Facing a lot of screen flickering issue on my OnePlus 6 device. It doesn’t even got fixed even after 5.1.11 update. Though they have mentioned that it will be fixed but not done. Yeah, its always flickering I mean link blinking while opening apps and media content in social media apps.

Before latest update phone was good but after update whatever the promises oneplus made is not working like fix display flickering and camera improvement. Now from update i started screen ficlering and many issues. Unstable version. Please bring android P fast or something to remove latest update to older one.

My phone was facing flickering display issue one plus 6, after the update the display is still flickering this has not be resolved.

Hi Team, I am still facing screen flickering issue during day as well as night time. Whenever I tries to unlock/lock phone , screen is flickering. How this would be fixed??. Have visited service centre twice and according to them this is not a hardware issue.

Display flickering doesn’t stop after new oxygen update. It was said that display flickering will stop after update but not stopped.

In fact, some of the affected OP6 users now reportedly get to see screen/display flickering not only under bright sunlight, but even in dark/low lighting (1,2).

Before update 5.1.11 the flickering was under sunlight and after that flickering in the dark is spotted by me. The screen vacillates between night mode to plain mode. Looks like the matter is with the screen refresh rate frequency.

Is the company aware?

Apparently, yes.

What’s good is that the problem has been communicated to the concerned software team. The information came from a OnePlus staff member while reverting back to some of the complainants. Here’s what they said:

Thanks, the issue has been reported to our software team.

screen-flickering

Lets hope OnePlus comes up with more information on the matter after looking into these fresh reports. And in case the problem is found to be still present under certain conditions, we’d expect the company to fix it once and for all in the next update.

Rest assured, we’ll let you know if any further development takes place on this front. So stay in touch.
