FYI: Android Pie IS affecting Pixel 2 XL Charging / USB-C Functionality from GooglePixel
It was just last week, when mainstream tech media highlighted the Android 9 Pie induced fast charging glitch on first gen Pixel phones, which Google later acknowledged, saying it will be fixed with a future update.
But are these charging issues only limited to first gen Pixels?
Sadly no. We have come across reports from a significant number of Pixel 2 and 2 XL users (1,2,3,4) chiming that despite using the stock/boxed charger (with USB C cable) their device is either slow charging or not charging at all.
Here’s how some of the affected users word their frustration:
After upgrading to Pie, I seem to have an issue with using the stock charger going from USB C to C. The phone will not charge. I have tried a second brand new stock charge and have the same issue. If I plug in a USB A to C charger the phone does charge, I also can charge from a USB C to A adapter using a standard USB cord.
I have been facing this strange issue that my pixel 2 xl charger works with another phone but not mine, but my phone strangely charges with another brand type c charger. I tried in safe mode but same issue. Also performed reset factory with erasing data but no luck. Recent changes done: updated to Android P from Oreo 8.1 public release day ago.
Apart from Pixel User Community, complaints are also starting to stack up over at Google Issue Tracker (1,2). Plus, similar reports can be seen posted across micro-blogging site Twitter as well, with Pixel 2/2 XL users saying:

Adding more to how widespread the issue is, multiple threads have already been initiated on the online discussion forum Reddit. One of them has even been marked as a ‘Known Issue’ by a Reddit moderator (may be because the same has been officially acknowledged on the OG Pixels).
FWIW, on one of the threads (on Pixel User Community) discussing the charging problem on Pixel 2 devices, a Google employee did respond. But essentially, they just repeated that the problem has been acknowledged on Pixel and Pixel XL models.
So currently, the charging matter with respect to Pixel 2/2 XL phones awaits an official acknowledgment from the company, as we couldn’t find any confirmation at least across the platforms where the issue had been highlighted.
Meanwhile, as shared by some of those affected, using USB A to USB C cable does the trick.
So you can try hands on this workaround until Google sheds some clarity as to whether or not it’s the same issue as on the Pixel and Pixel XL, and if so, will they be fixing it with the same update they’ve promised for first gen Pixels?
Note: We have also compiled a (continuously updated) list of issues/problems/bugs reported with (or triggered by) Android 9 Pie ever since it got live. Take a look to catch hold of all Pie-related issues.
