[Updated] Upcoming update likely to fix OnePlus 6 screen flickering issue

Just last week, we brought to limelight an Adaptive brightness-related issue on OnePlus 6 phones, wherein the device’s screen begins to flicker especially in outdoor conditions under direct sunlight when screen brightness is on the higher side (95% and above).

For those who aren’t aware, Adaptive brightness is a display feature that automatically adjusts the brightness of your device’s screen depending on how well lit your surroundings are.

Apparently, the proliferation of complaints across OnePlus Community and other help forums managed to grab OnePlus’ attention, as the company has updated that the Adaptive brightness feature will be optimized in the update to come.

Official word

The information was shared by a OnePlus staff member in this week’s round up on the company’s official help forum saying

We have noticed feedback from some users regarding the adaptive brightness feature on the OnePlus 6, it will be optimized in the next OTA update. (to be released very soon!)

While the staff member did not state clearly what kind of feedback have they received related to the feature in question, going by media reports (triggered by our coverage of the issue) and discussions across the company’s help forum, it’s reasonable to say fix for screen flickering will be at core of the optimization the company is talking about.

Not to miss the “to be released very soon!” phrase in their statement, which raises the bar of excitement hinting that OnePlus 6 is soon going to receive a new update, which should ideally bump the OxygenOS version to 5.1.10. How soon though, that we can’t comment on.
