It’s been a month since the OnePlus 6 was launched. Broadly speaking, the device has been well received, both by users and reviewers. But it has had its fair share of issues as well. 4G/LTE connectivity in dual-SIM mode has been one of the major problems.
We highlighted this issue just a few days after the device launched. Just to provide a quick refresher, there were a large number of complaints – mostly from users in Europe – that the device doesn’t detect LTE/4G network for SIM in slot 1 (slot 2 is fine though).
It’s been a few weeks since then, and the Chinese company has rolled out at-least three updates to the OnePlus 6 during this period. Now the original problem has gone, but a new issue has cropped up.
Users report multiple use-cases. For example, when they are in an area where there’s no 4G signal, the device switches to 3G (or whatever is available), but when they come back to an area with 4G coverage, the OnePlus 6 doesn’t switch back to LTE. The only way to bring back 4G/LTE connectivity is to enable the airplane mode.
Here’s how some complainants explain what they are experiencing (language is a bit broken as these are translated versions):
Now the problem is when we lost 4G, by calling for example or switch by roaming on France Orange when we do not catch Mobile free, the mobile stay only in 3G.
The only solution is to switch to airplane mode.
I also have this problem. But I noticed its occurrence with two sim cards on the priority card. The No. 2 card works with any problem with 4G. Everything works much better while there is only one SIM card in the phone. Play network Poland
It’s worth mentioning that many of those who have complained about this behavior have explicitly confirmed their unit is running the latest OxygenOS 5.1.8 update, which arrived a few days ago. A bug report related to this have been submitted to the company, and the one who filed it also shared a screenshot of their home screen to show they have a small airplane widget in place to enable/disable the mode.
Adding more weight to the matter, if you take a look at user comments on the bug report, even a OnePlus forum ‘Senior Moderator’ has confirmed the problem. Given that a member of the company’s own Bug Hunters team asked one of the complainants to file the bug report, it’s reasonable to assume the problem is being investigated. Let’s hope the issue gets fixed in the next update.
