I've had the same problem for about a week. This seems to be effecting quite a number of users, but works knows if it is widespread. Reset my Google Home Minis though the app, rebooted router, but no change pic.twitter.com/rBoHoY47vt

We’re seeing reports from Google Home/Google Assistant users that typed broadcast messages aren’t working at all. While voice broadcast messages are having no issues, typed messages throw an error saying “something went wrong.”
Reports are limited at the moment, but are slowly picking up, which suggests a recent update – which is still rolling out – might have caused this. A few days ago, Google rolled out the ability to access Play Movies & TV content to Assistant on Home. It’s quite possible this update is the culprit, but we aren’t sure yet.
Google is aware of the problem, and is already investigating it. This was recently confirmed by the company to a complainant on Twitter.
Appreciate the report, Michael. We're investigating this already and will keep you posted.

Google usually acts fast in resolving software issues, so it’s likely that another Assistant update will arrive soon containing a fix for this problem. We’ll update the story as and when that happens.
