Updated (May 18):

Roll out of the Oreo update on S7/S7Edge has been resumed.

Original story:

Merrily, the onset of this month finally brought along the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge Oreo update, at least in the UK. But sadly, as the roll out began, users took to help forums and micro-blogging site Twitter to complain about bootloops.

And what’s now coming to light is, Samsung has pulled the update. The news came from a Samsung moderator on the company’s official European help forum. Here’s what the moderator said while addressing Galaxy S7 users encountering reboots/bootloop after updating to Android 8.0.

“Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S7 devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update. We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.”

Elsewhere, the Notices section of Samsung’s Canadian help forum also got updated recently highlighting the same status for the update:

S7/S7 edge Android O upgrade is pending a fix for a technical issue discovered post initial rollout, Updates will be shared as available.

While the update retraction is confirmed, there is lack of information on how long will the company take to fix the reboot mess. We hope that happens sooner than later.

Meanwhile, following are the trouble shooting steps, as suggested by the moderator on the European help forum:

Rest assured, we’ll update the story as and when the roll out resumes. So keep a tab here.
