[Updated] Fix for Samsung Galaxy S8 airplane mode battery drain issue coming

Update:

May update resolved the issue only for Galaxy S8 users. Galaxy S9 and Note8 users continue complaining.

In the midst of April, we brought to spotlight an Oreo triggered issue on Galaxy S8 (majorly reported on S8+), wherein users reported battery drainage in the Airplane mode. About 15%-20% of battery being eaten up in comparison to what was 1% before the update, left users complaining.

Fix coming this month

While Samsung has been actively investigating the matter, as reported in our earlier coverage, what’s now coming to light is that they have caught hold of the root cause, and are working on an update to fix the same.

What’s good is that the wait shouldn’t be long, as the promised update is expected to get live some time during this month, as confirmed by a Samsung community moderator (on the company’s official German help forum) just yesterday.

Here’s the translated version of their statement which effectively confirms what we are saying:

I have good news. Our experts have returned. You have now discovered the cause of this behavior. Therefore, should for the Samsung Galaxy S8 | S8 + is expected to come this month an update that normalizes the battery consumption in flight mode.

Hopefully, the affected Galaxy S8/S8+ users will be relieved to hear the good news that the battery issues in Airplane mode will bid adieu soon. When exactly? That is not known yet. But we are keeping an active tab on all related developments and will update as and when we get more information on the matter.
