Not that camera issues are unprecedented coming to smartphones, but a newly launched flagship’s camera acting weird gets a little unacceptable for buyers of the device. After all they paid a good dime for it. The same is the story of Sony Xperia XZ2 users, at least some of them, whose phone’s camera is glitching out while recording videos.
The problem reportedly shows up specifically while recording videos in 4K resolution, wherein during the process, the video gets choppy or freezes for some seconds, in turn ruining the entire user experience. This behaviour occurs irrespective of whether the video is shot with HDR enabled or not.
One of the complainants explains the problem saying:
I recently recorded some 4K videos and in almost all of them there is a moment where the recording stalls and freezes and resumes…. It comes out looking like a still image while sound is still recording and then will resume movement that matches the sound. I have tried it with and without HDR and same problem.
See for yourself
Users have also shared a couple of videos showcasing the camera glitch. In the first video, freezing while recording can be clearly seen 00:22 second onwards:
The problem becomes more apparent in the second video shared by another user as the lag occurs back to back for a few seconds (00:35 second onwards):
The complainants have also confirmed that problem persists in the safe mode as well.
To sum it up
It’s too early to say whether the problem is widespread or not, but with multiple XZ2 users complaining and a couple of them even sharing the proof, the matter at least becomes worth highlighting. We hope it ends up being a software glitch, as a hardware problem will land Sony in a major trouble.
