Update (May 25):

The roll out has been resumed.

8.1 now rolling out for Three branded phones! from razerphone

Original story:

The Oreo update (Android 8.1) for the Razer Phone – which started rolling out beginning last week – has been delayed. That’s true at-least in the UK, where carrier Three has confirmed the roll out has been delayed due to issues.

The carrier’s support team on Twitter revealed this information in a series of tweets. Take a look:

Sadly, the carrier didn’t reveal anything about the problems that forced Razer to take this step.

SIM detection issues?

We tried digging out reports of problems (if any) users have been facing post update, but couldn’t find anything widespread. However, we did find some reports where users say the phone doesn’t detect SIM card after the update.

Here’s a Reddit thread discussing this:

No cell service after 8.1 update from razerphone

And here are a few reports on XDA.

Users are also complaining on Twitter:

There’s also a discussion going on over at Razer’s official forums.

Conclusion

So far, only Three UK has confirmed the roll out has been suspended, but this is likely to be the case for several other carriers as well. Razer is yet to officially come up with a word on this. Also, there’s no info on when the roll out would resume.

We’re continuously monitoring the situation, and will let you know as and when something news-worthy happens. Until then, keep a tab here.
