Apple has announced a new battery replacement program for some MacBook Pro units. Specifically, those 13-inch MacBook Pro units that do not feature a Touch Bar, and were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 are the ones eligible for battery replacement under this program.
Here’s what the Cupertino-based company said in a newly updated support page on its website:
Apple has determined that, in a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, a component may fail causing the built-in battery to expand. This is not a safety issue and Apple will replace eligible batteries, free of charge.

As already highlighted in the comment in the beginning, Apple says the problem doesn’t pose any safety issues, so there’s no need to panic. The company also notes the whole service process may take 3-5 days. For more info on the replacement program, head here.
