Huawei P20 Pro Google Maps: Huge Issue from Huawei
Have you bought Huawei’s newly launched P20 or P20 Pro flagship device? Are you experiencing Google Maps app performance to be laggy or glitchy? Don’t panic, as you aren’t the only one struggling with it, there are many others.
Google Maps dead slow or unresponsive
Huawei P20/P20 Pro users are routing to all possible help forums (1,2,3,4,5) to bring to light the straggling behaviour of Google Maps. Going by user reports, some say they get the lag in FHD+ mode, others say they encounter it when Google Maps default language is set to English.
A quick go through one of the user shared videos will give you a better hold on the matter:

Even the review section of the app’s Play Store listing is drenched with similar complaints. Take a look at some of the recent ones:
Not only that, even the device’s review videos highlight the same problem (as can be seen in the following Reddit thread)
Is Google/Huawei doing anything to address the concern?
Apparently no. Despite multiple active threads discussing the matter across different help forums, there’s no word from either Google or Huawei on the matter yet. We are hoping who so ever is at fault, should come with a statement to address the matter in question and give more clarity to those affected.
Meanwhile, changing the language to non-English did the trick for some of those affected. So you can try hands and reset the language in “Languague & Input” to see if that works for you. In some cases, switching from FHD+ to HD+ also made the difference.
