Update (March 3): Multiple users are confirming the update has finally arrived. For more information, read our latest story here.

Original story follows:

“Android One phones are among the most secure since they all get regular security software updates…” – that’s what Google’s official Android One website says. But is this ‘regular updates’ claim true for all Android One devices? Not sure about others, but definitely not for Xiaomi’s first Android One phone Mi A1.

The device was launched in September, and received regular monthly updates until January (which, in case you aren’t aware or forgot, turned out to be a bad month for users of the handset). However, the whole of February passed by and the phone didn’t receive the update for the month.

Worse, the Chinese company didn’t provide any official word on why this happened, or if it was planned for some reason. Needless to say, users are angry, calling this a breach of trust on Xiaomi’s part and the Android One brand in general.

In search for more info on the matter, we spent time on the company’s official forum, and found a thread where someone claiming to have sources within Xiaomi India said the update was indeed released, first for beta users and then for general public. But very shortly after that, the roll out was suspended due to bugs.

I just got a information from a reliable source who works with Xiaomi India that, the February Update which was released on 27th February 2018 for the Beta and afterwards for Stable users has been Suspended Indefinitely. Though this update fixed the bugs like Battery Drain and Finger Print Sensor, the developers have found other bugs which may not hamper the users but may lag the device. This means the users who got the stable update till today morning 11am are very lucky and others wait is what we have to do forever!!!

As my sources said they don’t know if Xiaomi will roll out the other stable update for or will wait to debug the current rollout update, but it will take time.

Please Note: My Inside Source says even Developers are not happy with the situations. That is why Xiaomi Officials are not saying anything related to MiA1 as they have f@#₹ed up.

Assuming all this is true, it’s safe to say Xiaomi has completely messed up with Mi A1 updates – the Oreo update for the handset was also pulled (not one but multiple times) due to bugs, and even after it finally arrived, it brought along big problems.

And what makes the situation worse for Xiaomi is the fact that the February update released by Google is also plagued with major issues (Google directly manages monthly patches for Android One phones, in case you aren’t aware).

It seems to be a messy situation within Xiaomi, at-least as far as Mi A1 is concerned. We think the company should officially offer a statement to clear the air.
