Heading straight to the point without much prelude, with the outbreak of February, T-Mobile Moto Z2 Force users brought it to light that their units were not upgrading to Android Oreo, despite the fact that the roll out began back in December end.
Sensing the urgency of the matter, MotoAgents/Moderators on the official Motorola/Lenovo help forum jumped into action, and confirmed that the update has been pulled by T-Mobile. One of the Senior MotoAgents on the company’s official forum recently broke the news about update’s suspension saying,
Unfortunately, the update for T-mobile has been delayed, our engineer team is working on the same and will be released as soon as it is ready
Adding to it, one of the MotoModerators further said,
I think it has to do with an issue between certain phones on T-Mobile and the Z2. This is just my guess. So they pulled it for now. Hopefully it will be back soon
While digging in deep to catch hold of the issue referred to in the above comment, we managed to locate some threads on the official T-Mobile forum where a VoLTE calling-related issue between T-Mobile variants of Moto Z2 Force & Galaxy S7/S7 Edge was being discussed.
We found that back in January, one of the company representatives had confirmed the problem saying,
We don’t have an ETA on the patch but we are aware of this issue and are working with Motorola on a fix
We would like to stress here that the problem in question is the one that we uncovered in the later half of January, wherein when a T-Mobile Moto Z2 Force customer makes a VoLTE call to another T-Mobile customer with a Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge device, the callee isn’t able to hear anything.
The matter was already officially acknowledged by Motorola.
We are aware of this and we are working on addressing this
Going by the latest update provided by one of the MotoModerators on the relevant thread where the VoLTE issue is being discussed, it is yet to be fixed. Here’s what a senior moderator said last week:
Motorola is monitoring the thread and they are aware of the issue
If the Oreo update for T-Mobile variants of Moto Z2 Force has been temporarily stopped because of this VoLTE issue (which seems quite likely), it’s reasonable to assume that unless Motorola fixes it, T-Mobile won’t be able to resume the rollback.
All in all, it’s turning out to be a sad story for Moto Z2 Force owners, as not only software issues (such as this one), they are also facing some major hardware glitches, like the ShatterShield screen problem we highlighted yesterday.
