Motorola has confirmed that the close to 3 year old Moto X Style smartphone (also known as Moto X Pure Edition in some markets) will get fixes for the recently uncovered Spectre & Meltdown security vulnerabilities. The confirmation came in the form of a post from a Motorola admin on the company’s official forums.

Here’s what the admin said:

The fixes will be included in the January security update, as confirmed by a MotoAgent on the same forum thread.

Sadly, there was no information on exactly when the update will start rolling. And mind you, there’s no guarantee that the January patch for the device will arrive in time. However, we do hope there’s no delay.

Several handsets from different manufacturers have already received Spectre and Meltdown fixes, and it’s good to see major players like Motorola keeping their older phones secured against new security vulnerabilities.
