Last year, Samsung released the Galaxy Book 2-in-1 device. It comes in 10.6-inch and 12-inch variants. One of the key highlights of the device has been its HDR-compatible sAMOLED display – a feature included in the 12-inch model. However, what’s coming to light is that the functionality is broken – you can’t even enable it.
User reports indicate that it’s been several weeks since complaints started pouring in that the enable HDR video playback option in the settings menu of the 12-inch model is a mere show, as it’s grayed out and hence cannot be used.
The following user-shared screenshot clearly displays that the HDR option is not-accessible.
Some of the users who tried getting into the depth of the matter speculate that it may have something to do with the generic PnP drivers installed on their units, which they say are HDR-incompatible.
Another user cited a Galaxy Book review saying the device’s color settings aren’t sufficient to support HDR.
If this is true, then it’ll be reasonable to say the HDR feature was never there in the Galaxy Book, and what Samsung did was false marketing. However, as it stands, there’s currently no proof of this. It’s also worth mentioning that Samsung support has been suggesting the complainants to take up the matter with Microsoft (as can be seen in the first screenshot in the beginning).
The complaints are not limited to Samsung Community and Reddit only, as we found the matter is being reported on Twitter as well. Following are come of the recent tweets:

The escalating number of complains on the official Samsung help forum seem to have finally got one of the Samsung moderators to speak up on the matter.
We are looking into this for you all, we will update you once we have a response
While the response doesn’t suggest Samsung has acknowledged the problem is at their end, it’s good that they have officially started investigating it at-least. We hope the company will come up with a solution sooner than later. Meanwhile, we are keeping a close watch on all related developments, and will update as and when something news-worthy occurs.
