Update (February 23):
Users continue to reports the problem, and it could be iOS 11 specific. Read more about it here.
Original story:
Just a few weeks ago, we uncovered an iPhone 8 issue that severely affects mic performance during calls. And now, it has come to light that iPhone X users – in large numbers – are also complaining about a similar issue.
Hundreds of iPhone X users are complaining on the official Apple help forum that during calls, the one on the other side often complains of not being able to hear them (either properly, or even at all in some cases).
In case of poor audibility, the voice seems to be either very muffled or from someone underwater. Also, if the device is put in speaker phone mode, then there are no such issues (that’s exactly what iPhone 8 users have been reporting as well).
Some even got their units replaced, but even the new units exhibited the same behavior. Some of those experiencing this issue say it creeps in a few seconds after the call starts, so that rules out the possibility of a phone case/cover causing the problem (although many clearly confirm that they aren’t using ANY case on their phone).
Steps like updating to latest iOS version, resetting phone settings, or even complete device reset created no difference for those who tried these.
A quick look at latest comments on the thread reveals complaints are continuing to pile up.

Apple hasn’t said anything officially. We hope the company takes notice of mic issues on both iPhone 8 and iPhone X (if not already), and fix them as soon as possible.
