Update (January 05):
The team is actively investigating the matter in question. Following is Google employee Yurrim’s latest post addressing the same:
Apologies for not being able to provide updates here for a while, we were looking at Play-side conditions earlier. Our team is now looking what kind of changes are required from the app
Original story below:
After the recently reported reboots on Pixel 2, Android Auto is now throwing compatibility issues for users of Samsung’s Galaxy S series devices.
Samsung users – mostly S7/S7 Edge and S8/S8+ owners – are reporting on the official Android Auto User Community as well as Twitter that Play store is now displaying “Your device isn’t compatible with this version” error.

Even those who had the app installed earlier on their devices are also running into this incompatibility glitch, which we presume may be due to some recent updates.
Considering the rising numbers of troubled users, Google employee Yurrim (also the Community Manager at the official Android Auto help forum) recently addressed those affected. She clearly mentioned that they are inquiring the compatibility problems with the Play Store team.
We are checking with the Play Store team. Let us update this thread when there’s more information to share
The above mentioned comment conveys there might be some issue with the Play Store listings, which the company is trying to figure out. In case you are getting to see the same error on your Samsung device, keep a tab here for further developments, as we’ll post them as and when they occur.
