Update (December 09):
Several iPhone X users also report of encountering the same issue.
Original story below:
It was last month, when Apple fixed the iPhone 8 crackling earpiece issue. And now, it looks like another iPhone 8-related trouble is brewing for the Cupertino-based company. Over at the company’s official forums, several users are reporting poor mic performance on their iPhone 8 units.
Specifically, those affected say during calls their voice isn’t clearly audible to the callee until they are talking directly into the mic. In one of the complainants’ words, “just the slightest movement of the phone away from my mouth and the caller on the other end has trouble hearing me.”
The problem doesn’t happen all the times, but is quite frequent. Also, there’s no such issue when you talk with the speaker phone on. Many users have confirmed that they have multiple iPhone 8 units in their family, and most (if not all) exhibit the same issue. Some even got their units replaced, but newer units are also having the same problem.
The forum thread already contains a significant number of comments, and the number on ‘I have this question too’ tab is fast approaching 100. So this is turning out to be a widespread problem . We also managed to dig out a similar complaint on official EE UK forums.
Apple is yet to come up with an official comment on this matter. Let’s hope that happens soon, and if it’s indeed a mic issue, then we expect the company to fix to as soon as possible.
