Since updating to iOS 11, iPhone users have been complaining of encountering multiple issues with the Gmail app, of which a couple got acknowledged by Google lately.
To start with, Gmail recently took to Twitter to acknowledge that the latest version of the app on iOS 11 is not auto pushing new emails. While reverting back to one of the affected users, here’s what the official Gmail account tweeted:
Another issue in question, regarding which user complaints have been pouring in on the official Gmail forum as well, is that the Gmail app’s badge icon (which shows the number of unread emails) gets stuck and won’t update/refresh.
Basically, the badge icon does notify by displaying, say, 1 when a new email is received, but continues to display 1 even after the email in question is read. Those affected also note that the badge notification/icon shows random behavior, as it starts working in between, and then gets back to relaying faulty info again.
With more users chiming in, Google finally acknowledged the badge notification glitch on October 5. Here’s what Vanessa, a Google employee and Community Manager at official Gmail forum, said:
So, it’s official that Gmail app on iOS 11 is encountering multiple problems. The company is working on fixing both these issues, and we hope that happens sooner than later. As always, stay tuned to receive all related developments as and when they happen.
