It’d not be unfair to say that the Android Oreo update has left users drenched in issues. One such problem acknowledged by Google back in September was premature disabling of mobile data on Pixel and Nexus devices. Well, there’s good news for those affected by this problem: the issue has been fixed by the company, and the fix will be rolled out in the next security update.

Naheed Vohra, Pixel Connectivity PM at Google, recently shared that the problem occurred due to a feature added in O release to restrict unnecessary battery drain when there was limited or no data connectivity on the phone. He clearly mentioned the problem has been resolved internally, and will the fix will be made available as part of the November security update.

We have identified a fix, and it will be rolling out via OTA in the next security update in November

To refresh, the issue in question results in mobile data being completely disabled once the data usage hits the limit set by carrier. This affects those cases where-in certain apps like WhatsApp and Facebook are permitted to be used even if the data cap is reached. Some even said that their mobile data is being disabled even before it hits the limit.

Thankfully, a solution has been identified. The November security update should ideally arrive in the first week of the month, so there’s still a few weeks of wait ahead.
