Update(November 01):

While Google continues to investigate the frequent WiFi drops on Pixel XL (encountered after updating to Android 8.0 Oreo), more and more users-complaints are pouring in. We have also located one such thread discussing the problem in question on Google Issue Tracker.

Original story below:

Shortly after Google started rolling out the Android Oreo update in late August, many of those who installed the new OS on their devices started complaining about a ‘WiFi drop’ issue where-in they say the WiFi would connect, and then drop afterwards without any valid reason.

Initially, there were only few reports, but gradually, the number of reported use-cases started to grow – a quick Google search now reveals the issue is being discussed on most of the popular online forums, including Reddit, XDA Developers, and Google’s own Product Help Forum. And going by reports, majorly Nexus and Pixel owners are complaining.

The growing number of complaints apparently brought the issue into the company’s notice, and it was late last week when a Google employee Orrin – who also serves as a Community Manager at official Pixel help forum – started a new thread, informing users that they are aware of such reports, and asking those affected to provide as much details as possible, including bug reports.

It’s worth mentioning that Google hasn’t yet officially acknowledged the problem, but given the rising number of reported use-cases as well as the aforementioned development, it’s reasonable to believe that ‘random WiFi drop’ is yet another issue the new Oreo OS has brought along. We’ll keep an eye on this, and let you know as and when Google offers more info on this problem.
