There must be more to Google’s new ‘Backup and sync’ app than meets the eye, or else why would its arrival be greeted by more complaints than appreciation. ‘Backup & Sync needs to quit’ is the error reported lately.
Soon after its roll out, the app is reported to quit on Windows 10. This problem came to notice on July 17, 2017 when it was reported by a user on the official Google Drive forum.
According to the user, when he tried to sync Google Drive with his computer using the app, an error code popped up stating ‘Backup & Sync needs to quit’. In addition, Google Drive folder did not show up in Backup and Sync. Even reinstalling the app was of no use.

On July 19, 2017 an employee from Google addressed this issue and added
“This is because of a bug that does not check if the preselected folders are syncable or not. A fix is coming soon for this. In the meantime, please re-install. When you go through setup, uncheck all folders checked by default. That should get you in a working state.”
It is clear that Google has acknowledged the issue and will soon fix it.
Meanwhile, on another thread, Mac users are also reporting a similar issue – the app quits after a few minutes with an error code 3ED93DBC. There is, however, no official acknowledgement in their case.
From the frying pan into the fire, suits the situation of those who waited for the new app. They were expecting it to resolve the existing glitches with Photos and Drive, but looks like the app has many more bugs so much more to offer.
