Have you noticed a sudden drop in auto-created albums by Google Photos’ Assistant? Well, that’s what some users have come across lately.
For those unfamiliar, Assistant creates albums by using best shots among the recently taken pictures, without any user input, termed as “smarter albums”. Of late, users (majority of them owning an iPhone) note that Assistant is not offering auto-created album updates on their device anymore.
The lack of updated auto-created albums issue came to notice on April 28, 2017, and was addressed by an expert from Google Products right away. She further updated on May 5, 2017 that
“I’m getting this issue checked for you with the product team”.
On May 31, 2017 she added
“I apologize for the delay. It’s taking a little time than expected. The team is aware about the issue and are looking into it. I’ll keep you updated on the same soon”.
She repeated the aforementioned comments on June 29, 2017.
It’s clear that Google is aware, and working on the issue. If Assistant is not auto-creating albums for you as well, don’t panic as the company may come up with a fix soon. Till then keep a watch here, as we’ll be updating in case of any further development.
Meanwhile, you can try some of the suggested workarounds:
• Disable and enable all Assistant cards
• Disable/ re-enable auto backup
• Uninstall and reinstall the Photos app
• Restart your device
